India is home to one billion plus people, speaking 16 major languages and hundreds of dialects. The majority follow the philosophies and worship the deities of Hinduism. Muslims form the second largest religious community, and there are sizeable numbers of Buddhists, Sikhs and others. About 3 percent of the population are Christians.

Foreign missionaries are no longer welcome in India. However, this restriction resulted in growing numbers of Indian nationals preaching and teaching the Word of God, even in the face of violent opposition.
